BREAST RECONSTRUCTION
Breast reconstruction is an operation to create a new breast shape after a mastectomy. There are different types of breast reconstruction and the timing of the operation can differ.
The main types of reconstruction include
- Use of an implant including tissue expander or fixed volume
- A tissue flap from another part of the body
The timing of the operation could be at the time of the mastectomy or at a later date separate to the mastectomy. The type of breast reconstruction and timing of procedure will be discussed between the surgeon and the patient. The time spent in hospital after the operation depends on the type of surgery carried out.
