BREAST CANCER SURGERY
Surgical options for breast cancer treatment are breast-conserving surgery and mastectomy.
There is also surgery for lymph nodes. At times chemotherapy, hormone therapy or targeted therapy is given to patients prior to surgery.
- Breast-conserving surgery (also referred to as wide local excision or lumpectomy) entails removing the breast cancer along with an area of normal breast tissue.
- Mastectomy involves removing the whole of the breast.
